Ecommerce Website Cost in Kenya: M-Pesa, Products, Delivery, and Stock

Ecommerce is an operating system, not only a catalogue

An ecommerce website has to do more than display products. It may need to manage stock, payments, delivery, customer communication, returns, fulfilment, and administration.

That is why two online shops can have very different costs even when both appear to have product pages. Before comparing ecommerce quotes, it helps to understand how website cost in Kenya is shaped by scope and ongoing responsibility.

What changes the scope?

Important questions include:

  • How many products and variations are there?

  • Who maintains prices, stock, and images?

  • Which payment methods are needed?

  • How is M-Pesa payment confirmation handled?

  • How are delivery areas and fees calculated?

  • What happens when an item is unavailable?

  • Does the business need customer accounts, discounts, or order history?

  • Which notifications go to the customer and the team?

The answers affect design, development, integrations, testing, and ongoing support.

M-Pesa needs careful planning

M-Pesa is a major part of Kenyan commerce, but adding a payment option is not the same as delivering a complete payment operation. The project should define the provider, payment flow, confirmation behaviour, failure handling, refunds, fulfilment, and who is responsible for the connected account.

Sitewell should not present one universal M-Pesa implementation as suitable for every business. Payment providers, credentials, commercial terms, and operational requirements need separate confirmation.

What a quote should make clear

Ask whether the quoted work includes:

1. Product and category setup.

2. Responsive design.

3. Payment configuration and testing.

4. Delivery and fulfilment logic.

5. Stock and order management.

6. Customer notifications.

7. Content entry and product photography.

8. Analytics and search foundations.

9. Ongoing updates and support.

10. Provider fees and third-party services.

If these items are not written down, the initial quote may not represent the actual cost of operating the shop.

Sitewell’s scope boundary

Sitewell’s public website plans are not a universal promise that ecommerce, payments, or integrations are included. Work beyond the selected website scope should be separately confirmed. Custom software is separately scoped under its own Statement of Work or Service Confirmation.
